Arsenal are planning for life without Cesc Fabregas by lining up a £15 million swoop for Germany playmaker Mesut Ozil.

Fabregas underlined his commitment to the Gunners cause with two goals against AZ Alkmaar during the week, but speculation continues to link him with a move to boyhood team Barcelona.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has identified Ozil, the Werder Bremen midfielder, as an ideal replacement, should Fabregas head back to his native Spain.

But the Gunners will have to wait until the summer to land their man, who is also being tracked by Manchester United and Liverpool. (Daily Star)

With Chelsea's transfer ban now suspended, Carlo Ancelotti can begin his search for new players. Top of the Italian's wish list are Sergio Aguero and Marek Hamsik.

Aguero, the Atletico Madrid striker, may cost as much as £40m, while Napoli midfielder Hamsik could reach £30m. (Daily Mail)

Barcelona have stepped up their efforts to sign Manchester City forward Robinho and will send a delegation to Abu Dhabi to thrash out a deal with City owner Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Wednesday.

The decision is left to him to take.­ We shall surely miss his services but the world will­ not come to an end at the Emirates.
