Premier League - Team news: Vidic set to return

PA Sport - Fri, 06 Nov 13:12:00 2009

Nemanja Vidic is set to return for Manchester United as they visit Stamford Bridge for a top-of-the-table Premier League clash with Chelsea.

Saturday November 7

Wolverhampton Wanderers v Arsenal (17:30)

Wolves striker Chris Iwelumo has been ruled out of the clash with Arsenal at Molineux.

The Scottish international suffered a recurrence of a metatarsal problem during his full top-flight debut at Stoke last weekend - although there is no repeat of the close season fracture.

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has already confirmed that last season's top scorer Sylvan Ebanks-Blake will return to the starting line-up against Arsene Wenger's side.

Ebanks-Blake was axed from the first XI for the trip to the Britannia Stadium despite scoring his first Premier League goal, albeit from the penalty spot, against Aston Villa a fortnight ago.

Arsenal will again be without defender Gael Clichy (back) and striker Nicklas Bendtner (groin) for the trip to the midlands.

Left-back Armand Traore and forward Carlos Vela (both groin) are close to fitness but will not be included, and neither will midfielder Jack Wilshere (ankle) and goalkeeper Lukas Fabianski (thigh).

Brazilian midfielder Denilson (back) and England forward Theo Walcott (knee) should resume training following the international break, but centre-back Johan Djourou (knee) remains out.

Sunday November 8

Hull City v Stoke City (13:30)

Under-fire Hull manager Phil Brown has had a boost for his side's crucial KC Stadium clash with Stoke with the news that Jimmy Bullard is fit and ready to make his home debut for the Tigers, over 10 months after he joined in a club-record £5 million move.

After recovering from a cruciate ligament injury sustained on his initial debut at West Ham in January, Bullard returned to action a fortnight ago as a sub in a 2-0 defeat at former club Fulham.

The former England midfielder sustained a fresh injury in a reserve game with Wigan soon after, however, but has now been given the all clear and is expected to start against the Potters.

West Ham United v Everton

West Ham will be missing Carlton Cole and Herita Ilunga for Everton's visit to east London after both limped off in the 2--1 win over Aston Villa on Wednesday.

Zavon Hines is set to replace Cole, while Radoslav Kovac returns from suspension to give Hammers boss Gianfranco Zola some respite from his lengthy long-term injured list.

Everton will be without the suspended Diniyar Bilyaletdinov, while Steven Pienaar is getting over his knee injury after missing the last seven matches and may play some part for the Toffees.

John Heitinga and Lucas Neill will return for David Moyes's side after being ineligible for Thursday's Europa League match with Benfica, but Everton's gruesome long-term injury list still includes Victor Anichebe, Mikel Arteta, Phil Jagielka, Phil Neville, James Vaughan and Leon Osman.

Wigan Athletic v Fulham

Erik Edman could make his return to Wigan's side as boss Roberto Martinez considers wholesale changes in the wake of the 4-0 thrashing at Portsmouth.

The Latics remain without full-back Maynor Figueroa, who has a knee injury.

Winger Damien Duff is set to miss out for Fulham with an Achilles injury that is not yet healed, while striker Andy Johnson is doubtful with a shoulder problem.

Johnson and Danny Murphy will both have fitness tests.

Roy Hodgson has no fresh injury concerns after the defeat to Roma, though Toni Kallio (Achilles) and David Stockdale (knee) are both still out of squad contention.

Chelsea v Manchester United (16:00)

Chelsea's Yuri Zhirkov (knee) is a doubt for the Blues as they welcome Manchester United to Stamford Bridge - despite being named in Russia's squad for their World Cup play-off.

Right-back Jose Bosingwa may need knee surgery, having undergone tests back in his native Portugal, but John Obi Mikel is hopeful of playing after missing the last three matches with an ankle injury.

Nemanja Vidic is set to return for Manchester United for the eagerly-anticipated match.

The Serbian has missed two games due to a calf strain but returned to training earlier this week and is expected to be fit, along with £30.75m record signing Dimitar Berbatov, who did not feature in Tuesday's draw with CSKA Moscow after taking a bang on his knee-cap.

Rio Ferdinand (calf) is definitely out, along with Park Ji-sung (knee), while Gary Neville is suspended, so John O'Shea is set to return.

Monday November 9

Liverpool v Birmingham City (20:00)

Fernando Torres could play a part against Birmingham after returning to Liverpool's Melwood training complex.

The 25-year-old made a whistle-stop trip to Valencia for a second opinion on his groin injury from a Spanish specialist who has worked with him before. He will do light training over the weekend and is still in contention to play on Monday.

Birmingham midfielder Barry Ferguson is suspended for Monday night's Premier League clash with Liverpool at Anfield.

The former Scotland international was sent off for two bookable offences during Sunday's goalless draw with Manchester City and could be replaced by Lee Carsley.

On-loan goalkeeper Joe Hart is available after being ineligible to face his parent club although deputy Maik Taylor impressed against Mark Hughes' side.

Winger Keith Fahey is battling to overcome a knock to his knee in training but striker Garry O'Connor is still troubled by a groin problem and is a doubt.
