Bulls advance past Sutton

Hereford dispatched Sutton from the FA Cup with a 2-0 victory over their Ryman League opponents at Edgar Street.

A sixth-minute goal from Frenchman Mathieu Manset set up their win before Ryan Valentine sealed the victory from the penalty spot with four minutes remaining.

Manset, however, was sent-off midway through the first half, forcing Hereford to play out 63 minutes with only 10 men.

Hereford swept into the lead when Manset scored from close range after goalkeeper Kevin Scrivens pushed a low drive from Craig King into his path.

Midfielder Jonny Godsmark should have put Hereford further ahead when Edrisso Sonko opened up the Sutton defence again but his shot was blocked by Scrivens.

At the other end Sutton central defender Jason Goodliffe twice had headers cleared off the line by Keith Lowe through Danny Blanchett.

But then Hereford were reduced to 10 men when Manset was dismissed in the 27th minute after a confrontation with Sutton's Alan Pouton.

Following Manset's dismissal Sutton stepped up a gear with a series of attacks but Hereford's strong defence held firm to deny the part-timers.

And with four minutes remaining, Goodliffe handled the ball in the area and Valentine beat Scrivens with a low shot into the corner of the net.
