Midson goal enough for Us

Jack Midson`s solitary strike gave Blue Square Premier leaders Oxford a famous FA Cup scalp as they sent League One Yeovil crashing out at the Kassam Stadium.

Midson, who was involved in Histon's memorable cup run last season when they beat Swindon and Leeds, lobbed goalkeeper Richard Martin from 15 yards after 55 minutes after good play by Adam Murray and Matt Green.

Yeovil did not take long to show their pedigree as they moved the ball smartly going forward.

The Us responded with a Damian Batt long throw which was nodded back by Luke Foster, James Constable almost reaching the ball ahead of the keeper.

And when Constable knocked the ball forward after a clever dinked pass by Simon Clist, Green raced into the penalty area and went down after slight contact by Terrell Forbes, but the ref adjudged that Green had lost his footing.

Oxford centre-back Foster twice went close to opening the scoring. The centre-back saw a far-post header saved from Dannie Bulman's cross, and moments later directed a glancing header just over from a free-kick by Murray.

Ryan Clarke did not have a lot to do in the first half, with his one real save coming when Andy Welsh cut in from the left but screwed his shot.

Oxford kept Yeovil pegged back in their own half, and it came as no surprise when Midson put the home side in front after 55 minutes.

Yeovil had a spell of pressure with Forbes shinning a far-post effort wide and Shaun MacDonald having a shot saved. And Jon Obika had another long-range shot saved in injury-time as the non-League side held out.
