Shuker ensures replay

Managerless Tranmere came from behind to earn a replay in a 1-1 draw with Leyton Orient at Prenton Park.

It was the least Rovers deserved from a game they dominated almost throughout as Chris Shuker's second-half leveller cancelled out Luke Ashworth's early header.

With both sides residing at the wrong end of the League One table, the game provided a welcome distraction for both teams but it was Orient that settled first and took an early lead.

Sean Thornton whipped in an inviting corner and Ashworth rose highest to power home his header after just seven minutes.

Tranmere could have been level 10 minutes later but Glenn Morris produced a fine diving save to deny Shuker.

The Merseysiders called the tune for much of the first period but found little going right in front of goal. Morris produced another good stop to again deny Shuker just ahead of the break.

Les Parry's men began the second period brightly and were rewarded in the 51st minute when Shuker found the target with a well struck effort.

It was nearly 2-1 moments later but Morris turned over a close-range effort by Craig Curran as Orient soaked up the pressure, meaning the tie will go to a replay at Brisbane Road next week.
