Sheffield Wednesday manager Brian Laws expects want-away centre-half Richard Wood to turn down any big money offers made by Notts County.
The ex-Owls captain's current contract is due to expire at the end of the season, and he has already turned down an improved deal to extend his stay at Hillsborough. League Two big spenders Notts County have shown interest in the 24 year-old, while Coventry and Ipswich are also thought to be interested.
Brian Laws told the Yorkshire Post: "Everybody knows that Notts County will probably be paying fairly good money that we couldn't match, but is it Richard Wood's cup of tea? I would be surprised if he even considered it."
He added: "There is a two week opportunity where things have got to move quickly. While Notts County have made a move, we are waiting for others.
"No one has made a firm offer. At the end of the day, we have got to the stage where we might have to auction him."

a shame we couldn't offer the high greedy wages that wood wanted. yeah, he's a decent lad - DECENT!!!!! he's not a special talent like we've had in the past i.e the mighty des walker. let him go to county - we have, and will do better... he'll soon realise that the rest of the world will forget about him over the next few yrs when notts county drop from one league to the next. let other greedy swines follow him so we might be able to free up funds to try and keep hold of varney, even if it may only be to extend his loan until the end of the season...
UP THE OWLS!!!!!
I hope Notts County have a Nice and Comfy treatment room because that is where he'll be spending most of his time!!!
Another Greedy W**ker that doesn't deserve to wear the shirt, Just like Chris Brunt!!!
Auction him i will start the bidding 10 bob and a curly wurley thats about as much as he is worth
My opinion is yes he is a steer but not exactly a prize one, he is still under contract to Wednesday so the greedy ******** should be sold to the highest bidder, get as much as you can Wednesday and get rid of players like this out of our club.
Sad to see another good young player go.. for lack of wages.. from the Owls.. he may not be top flight , but he is of a good level and young for the Championship..
Auction him? What is he a prize steer? Doesn't he have any say in it then? What is football coming to?
Another case of a greedy agent pushing things along.Hope you don,t regret it richard.
