PARIS (Reuters) - Guy Lacombe has been appointed coach of Stade Rennes as a replacement for Pierre Dreossi, the Ligue 1 club said on Monday.
The move came a day after a club source said Dreossi would quit his coaching role but would remain at the club, keeping his responsibility for player recruitment.
"Pierre Dreossi has proposed that the club recruit Guy Lacombe as the professional squad's coach, in order to give fresh impetus to the side," Rennes said on their Web site (www.staderennais.com).
Rennes, who will hold a news conference with Dreossi and Lacombe on Tuesday, have slipped to 13th in Ligue 1 following six consecutive defeats.
Lacombe, who started his coaching career at Cannes in 1990, was in charge of Sochaux from 2002 to 2005 before a spell at Paris St Germain from December 2005 to January 2007.
He won the League Cup with Sochaux in 2004 and the French Cup with PSG in 2006.
