Butcher sweating on Mackie fitness

Fri 07 Dec, 05:45 PM

Under-pressure Brentford manager Terry Butcher will hand a late fitness test to central defender John Mackie ahead of the visit of Grimsby.Mackie was withdrawn after 34 minutes of the 1-0 defeat to Morecambe on Tuesday night with an unspecified injury and will be given until nearer kick-off to prove his fitness.

If Mackie is ruled out Kevin O'Connor will move into the centre of defence and will make his 300th appearance for the club.

Charlie Ide missed the latest defeat with earache but should be fit while Butcher will be hoping on-loan left-back Lewis Emanuel has more luck finding Griffin Park after failing to arrive for the Morecambe game.

Butcher said: "Lewis didn't make it to the ground on Tuesday - he got lost on the M25. When that happens you have to wonder if someone up there is against us."

John Mousinho remains a long-term absentee with a knee injury while Ricky Shakes is a slight doubt with a knock.
