LONDON (Reuters) - Chelsea have made a bid to sign France striker Nicolas Anelka from Premier League rivals Bolton Wanderers.

"Chelsea can confirm we have made an official offer for the transfer of Nicolas Anelka which is being discussed with Bolton Wanderers," the London club said on their Web site (www.chelseafc.co.uk) on Monday.

Manager Avram Grant is keen to find a replacement for Didier Drogba while the Chelsea striker is on duty for Ivory Coast at the African Nations Cup in Ghana which starts on January 20.
