LONDON (Reuters) - Sweden international left back Erik Edman has joined Premier League strugglers Wigan Athletic from French club Stade Rennes, the club announced on Friday.
The 29-year-old former Tottenham Hotspur player is manager Steve Bruce's third transfer window signing after Honduran duo Wilson Palacios and Maynor Figueroa also joined.
Edman, capped 53 times for Sweden, is unlikely to get his international clearance through in time to make his debut against Everton this weekend.
"It's not often such experienced left backs become available and I'm not surprised so many other clubs were interested in him," Bruce said on the club's Web site (www.wiganlatics.premiumtv.co.uk).
The club did not disclose the transfer fee.
