Getafe strike late to claim 3-2 win over Sevilla

Sat 19 Jan, 09:43 PM

MADRID (Reuters) - Sevilla's miserable away form continued with a last-gasp 3-2 defeat at Getafe in the Primera Liga on Saturday after Cosmin Contra headed the winner.

The Andalucians, who have just one win on the road in the league, started brightly and took the lead after 16 minutes when leading striker Luis Fabiano got his 13th of the season with a close-range header.

Getafe fought back, though, and former Sevilla midfielder Francisco Javier Casquero scored a deserved equaliser with a fabulous first-time shot into the top corner from the edge of the area.

The home side went ahead just before the hour mark, Uruguayan midfielder Juan Albin stealing behind Sevilla fullback Ivica Dragutinovic to send a diving header past goalkeeper Morgan De Sanctis.

Dragutinovic seemed to have atoned for his error when he headed in from a corner a minute from time but the celebrations were cut short when Getafe substitute Cosmin Contra nodded home deep into stoppage time.

The win lifted Michael Laudrup's Getafe side four points clear of the relegation zone, and just two behind Sevilla who remain eighth in the standings.

Beleaguered Valencia, who have not won in their last seven league outings, meet regional rivals Villarreal at the Madrigal in Saturday's late match.
