Wigan forward David Cotterill is ready to fight for his first-team place at the JJB Stadium.Steve Bruce has admitted he has had a number of approaches for the Welsh international, but the former Birmingham boss is keen to keep him in his squad.
Cotterill scored in Saturday's 3-0 FA Cup victory over Sunderland, but the 20-year-old winger believes that it is unlikely to assure him of a start for Saturday's clash at Derby.
He said: "Maybe I can stake a claim. I still have Antonio Valenica and Ryan Taylor in front of me and they have been doing extremely well.
"It was nice to get my first run out for a while at Sunderland, and nice to score a goal too which finished the game off.
"Hopefully I did enough to show the manager I'm still about."
