Grimsby chairman John Fenty has branded troublemakers who caused ugly scenes at their match at Chesterfield on Saturday as "mindless thugs".The Mariners' 2-1 win at Saltergate was overshadowed by trouble before and during the game, with 11 Grimsby fans arrested for a variety of offences.
Fenty said: "They are clearly cowards and not fans of the club, otherwise they would understand the damage they do to the game.
"It needs stamping out and anyone that can help convict these mindless thugs and expose any attempt of organised thuggery must come forward to help rid the game of such nonsensical and brainless behaviour.
"The game cannot stand this nonsense. These idiots are tiny in number and need the severest punishment and banning from the game. These cowards, who spend £15 for five minutes of notoriety, are absolutely insane."
Chesterfield have appealed for witnesses after a female steward was allegedly head-butted while trying to stop fans running onto the pitch.
