Orient up into fifth with win

Tue 08 Jan, 10:45 PM

Leyton Orient ended a run of five games without a win to climb back into fifth place in the League One table after beating 10-man Tranmere 3-0.Orient broke the deadlock when striker Wayne Gray scrambled the ball home following a Wayne Corden corner after 11 minutes.

Tranmere responded with home goalkeeper Stuart Nelson forced to save shots from Tranmere midfielder Shane Sherriff and midfielder Paul McLaren in the space of 90 seconds.

But Tranmere were reduced to 10 men five minutes into the second half when, in a game of few free-kicks, Sherriff earned a second yellow card for a foul on Andy Barcham.

Striker Calvin Zola came close to an equaliser with a shot which went just wide of the far post but Orient, somewhat against the run of play, extended their lead.

Barcham laid on the chance for midfielder Sean Thornton to find the top corner with six minutes left and substitute Jason Demetriou fired in a low third in added time.
