Pardew pleased with Youga debut

Tue 08 Jan, 11:30 AM

Charlton boss Alan Pardew has admitted he is expecting big things from Kelly Youga after his impressive debut for the club against West Brom.Youga, recently recalled from his loan spell at Scunthorpe due to a spate of injuries at the Valley, put in an assured performance as the Addicks drew 1-1 in the FA Cup third round.

"I turned to my staff on the bench and said we'd have to send all our players to Scunthorpe because the coaching is obviously better there," said Pardew.

"He's come back and done terrifically well, it's almost like getting a new player. He went away an inexperienced young professional, and has come back well-coached, stronger, confident, and I thought he showed that.

"His passing was a bit erratic at times, but his defence was sound, and he shored us up. That's given him a great chance of having a good career here."
