Southend boss Steve Tilson has conceded midfielder Dean Morgan is out of the club's price range, which comes as a blow to cash-strapped Luton. After signing off from his two-month loan spell at Roots Hall with a brace against Dagenham on Saturday, Luton's administrators accepted a bid from League One rivals Leeds only for the 24-year-old to snub a move to Elland Road.
But Tilson has admitted the Shrimps will be unable to match the Whites' bid and was unsure why the Yorkshire club failed to land their man.
He told the club's official website: "I haven't heard anything from Dean and I don't really know what's going on.
"The last time I spoke to him he seemed set to go to Leeds, so I don't know why he hasn't.
"If clubs like that are after Dean though it seems unlikely we would be able to afford him."
