So what if Tiger Woods didn't play in Hawaii? He still tops our PGA Tour power rankings after the opening week of the 2008 season.
So what if Tiger was watching the (Orlando) Magic instead of making his own? Based on his accomplishments in 2007 (feel free to add in as many years as you like), Tiger starts this year as No. 1 in our rankings.
It would take the worst two months of his career to knock him off the pedestal. (Hint: It is not going to happen.)
1. Tiger Woods - He will win at least two Majors this season and make a serious run at the Grand Slam.
2. Phil Mickelson - Lefty, who will turn 38 in June, is suddenly running out of time to cement his legacy.
3. Steve Stricker - He can't win three Comeback Player of the Year awards in a row, but why not Player of the Year?
4. Stephen Ames - His last three starts, if you include the Skins Game: 1st, 1st, 3rd.
5. Daniel Chopra - Maybe he's the Chopra (not Deepak) who should be leading seminars.
6. Jim Furyk - Unsatisfying weekend for the diehard Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
7. Hunter Mahan - He is the best American golfer, under 30 that is.
8. Mike Weir - He's been a different golfer since Presidents Cup.
9. Vijay Singh - Still believes he's got a lot more in the tank. We'll see.
10. Ernie Els - See Mickelson above; Big Easy turns 39 in October.
