ATP Tour - Murray books last eight berth

Defending champion Andy Murray charged into the quarter-finals of the ATP Doha event in Qatar with a 6-2 6-4 victory over Germany's Philipp Petzschner.

The world number four needed just over an hour to dismiss Petzschner and will now face either Austrian qualifier Alexander Peya or Sergiy Stakhovsky in the quarter-finals.

The US Open finalist was forced to work hard in the opening games of the match but was rarely troubled by his opponent, who is currently enjoying a career-high world ranking at number 66.

Murray used his strength around the court to secure his first break of serve in just the third game, albeit at the fifth attempt, and quickly reinforced his lead with a second break in the seventh game before serving out the set when Petzschner hit wide.

Petzschner also conceded his serve in the third game of the second set, to love, with a series on unforced errors.

Murray then quietly served out the match in the 10th game, sealing the quarter-final spot at the second attempt when Petzschner dumped a backhand into the net.

  4. They added it to Murrays, your not going to get equal­ coverage on a uk site, but they do always add nadal and­ feds results. Your never going to get equal coverage...­ do you think swiss/spanish press give as much coverage­ to murray when nadal and fed are playing others? No,­ clearly they don't!
    It's right that they give­ more coverage to british athletes. A Brit is supposed­ to be proud of where he comes from and the achievements­ of his countrymen... as I am. Every other country in­ the world does this, if anything the British are the­ worst at it as we have a strange tendancy to slag our­ fellow countrymens achievements.

  10. Some you have come to a british website to critisize­ the fact that it gives coverage to british sportsmen?­ Of course it does! And I read the reports from last­ week... they did mention Nadal's results. Strangely­ they thought they should go into more depth about the­ british player tho.
    If you want more coverage on­ Nadal... go to Spain!!! I doubt they pay much attention­ to Murrays semi final over there, even tho he was­ playing Fed :)
