GLASGOW (Reuters) - Argentine striker Lionel Messi hit a double as Barcelona beat Celtic 3-2 in the first leg of their Champions League first knockout round tie at Parkhead on Wednesday.
Celtic, who were twice in front, took the lead through Dutch striker Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink in the 16th minute when he sent a diving header high into the middle of the net from Lee Naylor's cross.
Barcelona levelled two minutes later when Messi prised open the Celtic defence following a quick exchange of passes with Portugese midfielder Deco and then stabbed an angled shot from six metres over advancing keeper Artur Boruc.
Barry Robson put Celtic 2-1 ahead before the interval but French striker Thierry Henry made it 2-2 only seven minutes into the second half with a spectacular rising shot from 16 metres on the left of the box.
Messi made it 3-2 just 11 minutes from the end with a neat, low shot from 10 metres around Boruc into the far corner.
