Olympiakos sack coach in wake of Chelsea defeat

ATHENS (Reuters) - Greek Super League club Olympiakos Piraeus have sacked coach Takis Lemonis, the club said on Tuesday.

Olympiakos's board made the move "having in mind the immediate improvement of the football team for the attainment of their goals for the current period," the club said on their Web site.

Spanish assistant Jose Segura, who joined the club last summer from AEK Athens, has been given charge of the team for the rest of the season.

Lemonis's dismissal follows the team's exit from the Champions League last week after a 3-0 defeat by Chelsea in the last 16.

In Greece, they are a point behind leaders Panathinaikos and could yet win a domestic double as they lead Iraklis 2-0 in the first leg of their Greek Cup quarter-final.
