Chairboys boost play-off hopes

Leon Knight's outstanding overhead kick boosted Wycombe's play-off hopes as they beat Darlington 2-0 at Adams Park on Saturday afternoon. The former Chelsea trainee showed his class after 24 minutes connecting sweetly with Russell Martin's cross and in-form striker Scott McGleish put the final nail in the Quakers coffin bagging his 21st goal of the season late on as the visitors lost their first game in four.

The Chairboys showed no signs of a hangover from last week's shock defeat to Lincoln and stormed ahead with their first attack when Knight netted his third in Wycombe colours.

Darlington limped out after the interval and Knight nearly bagged a second after 54 minutes only for keeper David Stockdale to tip over.

The Quakers pressed for an equaliser but failed to find the target with substitute Rob Purdie seeing his shot sail narrowly wide after 68 minutes.

And it was left to McGleish to add to Darlington's misery when he capitalised on Steve Foster's blunder and rounded Stockdale to slot home with six minutes to go.
