Cumbrians extend home run to 13

Sat 08 Mar, 07:30 PM

Carlisle extended their record-breaking run to 13 successive home wins as they beat Brighton 2-0 thanks to Danny Graham and Danny Livesey.Brighton were no pushovers though, with ex-Carlisle striker Glenn Murray the visitors' chief danger and he was denied after 26 minutes by the legs of home goalkeeper Keiren Westwood after Ian Westlake's through-ball.

The Cumbrians broke away in the 34th minute to take the lead with a goal which had a slice of good fortune about it.

Simon Hackney cut in from the left as Danny Graham diverted his low cross from the byline. The ball spun past keeper Michel Kuipers with Brighton midfielder Steven Thomson appearing to have the final touch, but the goal was credited to Graham.

Then Murray was sent tumbling in the box by Peter Murphy only to have his penalty appeal turned down, but skipper Livesey settled Carlisle's nerves with a decisive finish to make it 2-0 in the 58th minute.

Marc Bridge-Wilkinson's corner was turned back by Murphy beyond the far post and Livesey hit a first-time right-foot shot past Kuipers.
