Glovers ease their relegation fears

Sat 08 Mar, 07:15 PM

Yeovil eased their relegation worries with a superb 2-1 home victory over fellow drop zone strugglers Cheltenham on Saturday afternoon. They went ahead after eight minutes when Andy Kirk embarked on a superb 60-yard run and appeared to lose control but Robins defender Andy Lindergaard blasted a clearance against colleague Alan Wright and the ball rebounded into the net.

Yeovil continued to create the better chances although Wright could have atoned for his own goal in the 35th minutes when he hammered an 18-yard free kick into the defensive wall.

Cheltenham continued to push for the equaliser and it came after 64 minutes when Ashley Vincent got in a cross from the right and loanee Steve Brooker picked his spot at the far post to fire in.

But the Glovers grabbed the winner 16 minutes from time when a throw-in found its way to Kirk and he fired in from close range.
