Paul Robinson insists there will be no West Brom hangover in pursuit of promotion should they suffer a shock FA Cup defeat at Bristol Rovers.Tony Mowbray's side never recovered from losing a penalty shoot-out to Middlesbrough in last season's competition at the fifth-round stage, and their promotion challenge faltered.
But Robinson is confident the strength of character in the current squad will ensure there is no repeat this season, with Albion facing crunch home league clashes with Crystal Palace and Leicester after the visit to the Memorial Ground on Sunday.
The former Watford left-back said: "We've taken a defeat on the chin this season and bounced back the week after in a positive fashion.
"Last year we won about three of our last 12 games, and that was damaging to our confidence. We never recovered from the Middlesbrough cup game and we never lifted ourselves back up.
"This year we have done so - and even if we lose on Sunday, we know we can bounce back."
Robinson is aware West Brom have a golden chance to clinch a Wembley semi-final spot but has immense respect for Rovers, who have toppled Fulham and Southampton already in the competition.
He said: "When the draw came out, everyone was saying to us it would be an easy draw - but it won't be easy. Fulham and Southampton both struggled against Bristol Rovers, so we have to be professional about our jobs.
"They're at home; they're going in as the underdogs. When that happens, there's no pressure - and that will give them an extra lift.
"But we've shown great character and togetherness over the last three or four weeks. That's been the positive thing for the lads. We've always bounced back after defeats."
Robinson himself has a pleasing cup pedigree.
"I've been lucky in the cup," he said. "I lost to Southampton when I was at Watford in the semi-final - and generally I've gone out to Premier League sides.
"I've never really been on the receiving end of a big upset - but I know that could happen against Bristol Rovers."
Albion also have an extra motivation to do well for the remainder of the season, after midfielder Filipe Teixeira was ruled out for up to eight months with cruciate ligament damage.
Robinson said: "Filipe is a massive loss to us, because he's a quality player.
"He has the same abilities as Jason Koumas. He's great with both feet. The way he turns defenders is unbelievable, and he's horrible to mark in training.
"He's a big loss to us, and we're all fully gutted for him and determined to do well for him. We will try and do our best for him this year."
