Kayode Odejayi's second-half header stunned Chelsea at Oakwell as Barnsley claimed a famous 1-0 victory to move into the FA Cup semi-finals.The Tykes - who famously dumped Liverpool out of the competition in the previous round at Anfield - pulled off another giant-killing as Avram Grant's side were sent tumbling out of the cup on the same day that Manchester United fell victim to Portsmouth.
Odejayi's goal means that only Pompey and Middlesbrough (who must first overcome Cardiff on Sunday) are the only Premier League teams left in the competition in the most open FA Cup in decades.
The Tykes made a bright start with Jamal Campbell-Ryce sliding a ball through to Brian Howard in a dangerous position, but the Blues defence snuffed out the chance before he could line up a shot.
But Chelsea soon found their rhythm with Michael Ballack and Joe Cole blazing efforts over the bar, while Rob Kozluk did well to block another effort from the England midfielder.
Ricardo Carvalho then had to be alert to snuff out the dangerous Odejayi, while the powerful striker saw another effort just fizz past Carlo Cudicini's right-hand post.
Hungarian striker Istvan Ferenczi missed the best chance of the first half when he turned in the area and sent a right-footed shot wide in the 37th minute and moments later the marauding Odejayi forced Cudicini into a diving save.
But the Blues made a determined start to the second period with Cole seeing his shot deflected wide for a corner and Nicolas Anelka's effort comfortably gathered by Luke Steele. Some good defending from Bobby Hassell denied Anelka a clean shot on goal following John Terry's knockdown as the Blues began to turn the screw.
Just as Barnsley's legs appeared to grow heavy, winger Martin Devaney ploughed down the right - and after Ferenczi's run outside caught Wayne Bridge in two minds, the Tykes winger delivered the sweetest of crosses for Odejayi to rise above Cudicini to head home. It was the Nigerian-born forward's first goal since September - and it left Chelsea and their 6,000 travelling fans stunned.
Chelsea laid siege on the Barnsley goal late on and despite the best efforts of the hard-working Cole and substitute Salomon Kalou, the Tykes held firm to book their place in Monday's semi-final draw to reach the last four for the first time since 1912.
