Roy Keane is ready to go to war with Trinidad and Tobago after they called up Carlos Edwards for a friendly in Jamaica at the end of the month.
Sunderland winger Edwards is close to returning from the broken leg which has sidelined him since December, with manager Keane hoping he will feature for the reserves next week.
The 29-year-old's injury plight has not prevented his country naming him in their squad for the March 27 friendly in Kingston, a game which also falls two days before his club's crucial Barclays Premier League home clash with West Ham.
"I'm surprised Carlos has been called up," said Keane ahead of tomorrow's visit of Champions League-chasing Everton.
"He's played one, two games in the last seven, eight, nine months.
"Maybe I need to make a call to their manager. Maybe they're not aware of that."
Also in the Trinidad and Tobago squad is Kenwyne Jones and Keane is yet to decide whether to try and also prevent his star striker travelling.
He said: "We'll cross that bridge when we get to it.
"We've a tough game on Sunday - just as long as Kenwyne is available for that."
The duo's loss for the West Ham clash would be a huge blow to Sunderland's survival bid.
Edwards became a huge hit on Wearside following his arrival from Luton in January last year, playing a massive part in the club's successful promotion charge.
However, he has made just five appearances this season, missing almost three months between August and November before this latest setback.
His absence has deprived Sunderland of one of their best attacking players, putting more pressure on the defence to keep clean sheets.
Keane was eager to praise former Manchester United pair Phil Bardsley and Jonny Evans ahead of a game against an Everton side who scored seven times when the clubs last met in November.
Since the £2million January capture of right-back Phil Bardsley, Sunderland have kept three clean sheets in five matches.
Keane said of the 22-year-old: "He's come in and he's been a big plus at the football club, I have to say.
"His performances, in the dressing room - even his banter's quite good!"
Two years Bardsley's junior is centre-back Evans, in his second loan spell at the club after spending the second half of last season at the Stadium of Light.
Keane said: "He's got the (total) package again. People look at what he does on the pitch but we also focus on what a player does on the training pitch, how he deals with the media, how he deals with himself in terms of being on time.
"He's been a big plus for us, Jonny."
As for the prospect of making Evans' move permanent, Keane said: "Jonny's under contract at United and we've got to respect that.
"I know United rate him very highly and we were obviously fortunate to get him when we did on loan.
"In an ideal world, we'd love to bring players of Jonny's calibre to the football club."
