Internazionale defenders Marco Materazzi and Nicolas Burdisso are definitely out of Wednesday's Champions League tie with Manchester United at Old Trafford.
The pair were both injured during Saturday's 2-0 Serie A win at Genoa.
Italian World Cup winner Materazzi appeared to pull a muscle as he reached for the ball in the centre circle during the first half.
And he was soon joined in the treatment room by Burdisso, with midfielder Esteban Cambiasso forced to fill in at the back.
"For Nicolas Burdisso, tests showed a tear in the right leg and a tear in the medial ligament of the left knee," the club stated, adding that Materazzi had a left leg injury.
Fellow centre-back Walter Samuel has returned to full training but Cristian Chivu remains a doubt for Wednesday.
Victory, achieved thanks to goals from Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Mario Balotelli, extended their lead at the top of the table to 10 points and saw them become the first team to beat Genoa at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris this season.
However, the injuries were a high price to pay with Wednesday's last-16 second leg lurking.
The first game at the Giuseppe Meazza finished goalless.

Manchester united 'Ferguson' promised to win all the five leagues. And I believe he is really serious about that. NOTHING CAN STOP THE RED DEVILS. Victory against Inter Milan. Peace.

Re 13 This is a wind up surely. The best quality football Chelsea have ever played? A pleasure to watch? It is Chelsea under Mourinho you're talking about isn't it? I'm sorry but Mourinho has many positive qualities but fundamentally he is a pragmatist and his objective is to win first and last and he adopts a style of play which crushes the life out of a game and relies on his players overpowering opponents by sheer force of numbers in midfield. It is highly effective but it is not entertaining!!
Whatever defensive record Man Utd hold now, it takes a little lapse in concentration from evans, evra, vidic etc., to let Ibrahimovich score. I watched his goals for Inter this season on TV and some of them are just great goals and some took just couple of seconds to turn and fire into the net. I think if United defend well in the first half of the match and try to attack in the second half, they might be able to score goals and win as Inter is full of aged footballers :) and also the fact that Rio won't be bale to make it. I am not too convinced about Johnny Evans and O'Shea is just a waste of time.
Sorry Monty, must disagree with you. chelsea played their best ever football under Jose - not just winning the matches, but the best quality football they have ever played - they were a pleasure to watch (and I'm not a chelsea fan). They might well surround the ref(what team doesn't) but that is the passion that he has put in his players - and boy they showed it under him, they were unstoppable.
Can't argue! Jose IS a great Manager. BUT, players on the teams he manages ALWAYS have certain special characteristics in common: Their arragance defies belief; A Ref gets no respect. Close calls, against them, incur efforts to intimidate the Ref (or linesman, or both) by surrounding him, yelling their contempt for the call, & not following his commands to move away or come over to be booked. AND Jose is the head cheerleader; Their aggression goes way beyond reasonable on the pitch. They're the dirtiest, most vicious, players of any team in the league where he manages. It has to be clear that Jose doesn't only teach play, but how to foul, with intent, in ways least likely to be seen by the officials. No question soccer is a contact sport, but he's turned it into no-holds-barred war, with instructions to take no prisoners! Jose's idea of soccer would make Patton the best Manager on any pitch!!
1and 2, I am with you all the way.
My god - most of you can not even spell, let alone have a decent opinion on football. Just because you are English, you support Man Utd. Jose IS the best manager to have graced our country and he took Chelsea to a level that they will never reach again. Funny, he left, but they had all the same players, why can they not achieve what they did under him????????
And as for saying whatever club he goes to have good players is rubbish. He did not have endless money at Porto, but still won the Champions League. Okay, he did have the money at Chelsea but those same players are now not performing.
If he comes to Man Utd when Alex retires, I take it you will all change your views on him????
The guy is a genius - but no-one will agree with that because he is not English!!
The way United are playing right now, they will be hard to beat. With the meanest defences in the Premier League, now beginning to score for the fun of it, home advantage and the motivation for the players to make history, I just can see Inter getting a result.
let me see how gud is Jose Mournuei, i always think that he's been lucky most of the time . so this is a test for him and if he loses , he is really a loser coz he had always good players in his team starting from Porto to chelsea and now Inter
igwe g.sour grapes!
Gospel according to the records,Man U beware Inter and Murinho, the odds are against you.
Aloy,Agadez,@#$%
way to the quintiple..
Even jose can't do that..
Only manutd can..
manU will beat inter with more than one goal on Tuesday, Mourinho should concrete on serie A
Nice tactics, get dumb Man U hopes high, then give them a good beating at Old Tra. Home of dumb Man U and fans
THINK POSITIVE GUYS AND YOU CAN DO IT..UTD ALL THE WAY!
What i know quite sure of is dat even if there were no injuries, Manchester United will still win. I strongly believe in the spirit of unitedness. Red Devils go for the victory.
