England defender Rio Ferdinand could yet be fit for the second leg of Manchester United's Champions League clash with Roma on Wednesday night.Ferdinand limped off during the second half of United's 2-2 draw at Middlesbrough and sparked fears by leaving the Riverside Stadium with his foot in a protective case.
But a scan on Monday confirmed there was no break - and he may now be available for Roma's visit to Old Trafford.
Manager Sir Alex Ferguson, whose men won the first leg in Rome 2-0 last week, said: "Rio's scan was clear and we hope to have him on Wednesday."
Gary Neville and Mikael Silvestre have both been named in the squad, and one of them could start the game if Ferdinand is not deemed fit enough.
Nani missed the 2-2 draw with Boro and did not train on Tuesday due to a thigh injury.
