Lee sets sights on Wembley double

Tue 08 Apr, 03:30 PM

Ipswich striker Alan Lee is planning two visits to Wembley this season - one with the Tractor Boys and another with Cardiff.Lee spent almost two and a half years with Cardiff before moving to Portman Road in January 2006 and was delighted to see his former side reach the FA Cup final on Sunday.

And the Republic of Ireland international wants to make it a Wembley double by helping Ipswich secure a play-off place, starting with Wednesday night's clash with Dave Jones' side.

"My priority is obviously Ipswich but I'm delighted for Cardiff that they have reached the FA Cup final," Lee told the club's website.

"I was offered tickets for the semi-final against Barnsley but with us training and the game on Wednesday it wasn't possible, but I'm hoping to make it to the final and go along and support them, if things work out.

"The squad has changed a bit since I was at the club but when we played at Ninian Park earlier in the season there were still many familiar faces around, and friends as well.

"Hopefully they will be at Wembley one week and then we will follow seven days later in the play-off final.

"We know we have a lot to do, especially after the defeat at Colchester, but we still have a decent chance and we have to make sure we take it.

"It's a big week for us with the Norwich game coming up as well but if we can pick up six points it will give us a massive lift."

Cardiff are four points behind Ipswich and still harbour faint play-off hopes of their own, but their Wembley victims Barnsley return to league action in a relegation scrap.

Simon Davey's side could be four points adrift of safety by the time they take on fourth-placed Watford at Vicarage Road.
