Darlington have appointed former captain and stalwart Craig Liddle as their new head of youth development as they believe the role is "vital".Liddle made over 300 appearances for the Quakers before retiring in May 2005 and has since worked in youth development at Middlesbrough and Sunderland.
The 36-year-old told the club's official website: "To return to Darlington is fantastic. I had an amazing time here as a player and captain and I hope I can make a real difference at youth level.
"I am incredibly excited about the challenges ahead and delighted to be returning to the Quakers at a very positive time in the club's history."
Quakers manager Dave Penney, who was instrumental in bringing Liddle to the club, added: "The youth development set-up is vital to any football club but particularly at our level.
"To bring youngsters through the ranks not only saves the club financially but also encourages others to realise that if they are good enough they will be given the opportunity to play."
