Youngsters to get Robins chance

Tue 08 Apr, 12:15 PM

Cheltenham's reserve side will again take on an unfamiliar look when they tackle Swindon on Tuesday evening as trialists are given a run-out.Manager Keith Downing is set to give a quartet of young hopefuls their chance to impress as he looks to shape his squad for next season.

Leeds midfielder Gavin Rothery will be handed another opportunity to stake his claim for a contract along with United team-mate Simon Madden - a full-back - Sunderland winger Billy Dennehy, Coventry defender Liam Robinson and Manchester United striker Chris Fagan.

"I want to keep together a squad of around 18 or 20 for the remaining first-team games so I'm a bit cautious about playing some of them in the reserves," Downing told the club's official website.

"It gives us an opportunity to have a look at some of the boys who are going to be released from other clubs with half an eye on next year.

"They are all young players and a couple of them we saw at the recent Academy exit trials. Four of them trained with us on Monday and Dennehy is due to travel down on Tuesday. It's a good opportunity for them and they are obviously trying other clubs out as well as Cheltenham."
