MK Dons powered to the top of League Two and to within touching distance of promotion with a 4-1 win over rock-bottom Wrexham.
Goals from Danny Swailes, Aaron Wilbraham (two) and Sean O'Hanlon did the damage for Paul Ince's men, who will see League One football confirmed if Stockport lose on Wednesday night.
It also left Wrexham - who briefly got back to 2-1 through a Neil Roberts penalty - seven points adrift of safety with five games remaining and looking doomed.
The team they are chasing are third-bottom Notts County, who were 4-2 losers at Rochdale. The victors tightened their grip on a play-off place.
All the goals came in a breathless final 32 minutes, Rene Howe and Adam Rundle making it 2-0 to the home side, but Jason Lee pulled one back.
Then Adam Le Fondre and a Michael Johnson own goal put the result beyond doubt before Neil MacKenzie netted a last-gasp penalty.
Both the night's other games - Bradford against Barnet and Morecambe versus Shrewbury - finished 1-1.
Adam Birchall's opener for Barnet was cancelled out by Eddie Johnson, while Marc Pugh levelled for the Shrews after Carl Baker had put Morecambe ahead.
