Kapp's team, which has already been confirmed as Germany's representative at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games, was up 5-1 after three ends and is now in a tie for third place at 4-3.

Switzerland's Ralph Stoeckli implemented a number of team changes and came away with an important 3-2 win over Norway.

Swiss third Jan Hauser was moved down to second stones and 1992 world champion skip Markus Eggler was promoted to skip position and third stones.

The previously undefeated Norwegians dropped to 5-1 while the Swiss improved to 3-4.

Scotland's David Murdoch completed a miserable day with his second loss, a 5-4 defeat at the hands of Jiri Snitil's Czech Republic.

The Scots join Germany on a 4-3 record as has John Shuster's United States foursome, which fell 9-6 to Denmark's Ulrik Schmidt.

The Danes improved to 3-3, tied with France's Thomas Dufour. Japan and the Czech Republic are both 2-4, while Finland and China's Fengchun Wang are 1-5.

"That was the first game, the seventh game of the event, where we were leading," said Kapp.

"The shooting is good from the front end but for the first few games either Al (third Andreas Lang) or me were struggling.

"We had a tough start too, with Scotland, Canada and Switzerland. But right now the momentum is good and we are on the right road."

The Swiss were pumped up after handing Norway their first loss of the championship.

"Something had to happen," said Eggler. "It was a decision from the team and the coaches. Everybody decided, but it was the wish of Ralph especially."

Stoeckli said: "I wasn't comfortable with where to put the broom - and that was affecting my shooting."
