Abbott to stay with Carlisle

Fri, 08 May 11:57:57 2009

Carlisle boss Greg Abbott has received the full backing of the club`s board of directors to continue in his role at Brunton Park next season.

Abbott's future with the Cumbrians had come under threat after they needed a final-day victory over Millwall to ensure their League One status.

But after the board met to discuss his role on Thursday, they unanimously decided that Abbott - who was only appointed in November - deserved the chance to build his own team and lead the club through a full campaign.

"We want to bring continuity and stability to the club. Now is not the time for more changes," chief executive David Allen told the club`s official website.

"Greg is in his first permanent post as a manager and he has a contract to take him through to the end of next season.

"We will be doing everything we can to help him bring success to Carlisle United in that period."

  1. the board has a total lack of ambition. as always. they are quite happy not to get promoted to the championship and until theres new owners, no matter who manages the club, carlisle will always be a team going between league one and league two.

  3. On what grounds have the board decided to renew Abbott's period of tenure; results during his tenure so far ?; he's a decent chap ?; he is cheap? Well two out of three can't be bad except for our prospects next season under this under performing board and under performing manager.

  4. well the carlisle board have the ball in their court. they have backed Abbott but why? the results in the last half of the season are at best unbearable, and where is he going to get the money to replace the players he has discounted. is the board going to put their hands in their pockets, I dont think so. dave b

  5. Abbott should be given a chance to build his team, after all, he inherited a load of @#$% from Ward. Lumsden and co should go, they wern't committed enough. The last thing the board should be doing is unsettling the whole structre. Stability is the answer to Carlisle Utds failings, not another untested Manager.
