Digard flummoxed by Boro struggle

Fri 08 May, 03:47 PM

Middlesbrough midfielder Didier Digard cannot believe the club has been plunged into a fight for its Barclays Premier League life.

The 22-year-old Frenchman arrived at the Riverside Stadium in a £4million move from Paris St Germain in July last year and set about the task of establishing himself in English football with a side hoping to break into the top 10.

However, with just three games of the season remaining, he and his team-mates find themselves facing a derby trip to Newcastle on Monday night which could effectively condemn them to life in the Coca-Cola Championship.

It is a far cry from what Digard, or for that matter, anyone else on Teesside, expected from a campaign which started in such a positive mood.

Digard said: "I am very surprised because at the start of the season we felt we had a good staff and some good players, so it is hard. But when you lose two, three, four games on the trot, in your head it is hard.

"After that confidence is not there and it is hard. But I am not afraid in this situation because I know we have good enough players to stay in the Premier League."

  1. What's this guy on!
My team, Newcastle United, are where we are (3rd bottom) because we DESERVE to be there.
'the boro' are where they are (2nd bottom) because they DESERVE to be there.
At the end of the season, whoever finishes in the bottom-3 will DESERVE to be relegated.
As for the fans: the fans of Newcatle United DESERVE Premier League football.
The majority of the fickle 'fans' of 'the boro' ( footyfan4eva apart, as she is cool!!!) DESERVE the Conference.

  2. Come on the boro put newcastle in there place, if we can`t beat newcastle with half of there team injured then we deserve to be playing in the chamionship, southgate needs to get some bigger balls and stop praising the team for not getting the results and sticking his boot in there @#$% and making them get results, shame alves hasn`t lived up to his multi million pound price tag and we can`t score for @#$% but monday night`s d day boys so pull it together and repay steve gibson and all your fans or else this could be the best start to a season and by far the worst end.
