Gerrard - We won`t surrender

Fri 08 May, 08:21 AM

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard aims to put the pressure on Manchester United at the top of the Barclays Premier League by helping his team claim top spot at West Ham.

If the Reds do so, it will be the first time since the inception of the Premier League that they have led with two games to go.

Of course United, with a game in hand, can reclaim top spot by winning at home to neighbours Manchester City 24 hours later.

But the measure of Liverpool's improvement this season will be underlined by even a temporary stint at the head of the table at this stage.

If they do take all three points at the Boleyn Ground, they will reach the 80-point mark for only the third time in the Premier League - their highest is the 82 amassed in the 2005-06 season, when they finished third.

Gerrard, set to lead Liverpool for the 100th time in league combat, still believes the title is possible. He said: "We will keep going until the end. We won't surrender when we're so close. Winning the title with this club would mean the world to me."

  1. In ManU's last 15mtaches or so,they have been depending on the brown-envelloped referees to OVREBO their matches in their favour. If the referee does not OVREBOed the match then the day will be for City. I just wish SAF does not brown-envelloped the referee for him to OVREBOed the match so that with the Mighty reds win over Zola will improve things around.YNWA

  2. n1r3d - cheers for your comment. I enjoyed the banter. I am a Liverpool supporter - who knows her facts. I do not have any grievance with Man U per se. The arrogance of some supporters is somewhat wanting though.

You have proven my point for me. You state "all Liverpool fans who claim their team is the most successful, whilst basing that only on the European Cup wins and league championships". It is a FACT that we hold more of these titles than Man U. It is also a FACT that we have more honours and trophies than any other team in English soccer. It is also a FACT that these trophies were won in the past - how could ALL those trophies possibly be won in one season!
Your attempt to belittle Rafa Benitez and Steven Gerrard just shows that you have no respect for soccer and your opinions are worthless.
Your inability to communicate your point without resorting to personal attacks proves how ignorant, arrogant and childish you are.
    FOOL.

  7. Susan M, you are epitome of Liverpool fans where stupidity reigns supreme.
I have presented my facts, where are yours?

The only person you are fooling is yourself. Your drivel really does sum up the lame and pathetic comments spouted by all Liverpool fans who claim their team is the most successful, whilst basing that only on the European Cup wins and league championships. Overall Man U are more successful than Liverpool and that is a fact I have provided, where are yours?

Your comments are as hollow as the comments from the Liverpool manager and the Liverpool captain.

And for the record, all Liverpool fans have got is their past, they have nothing else to boast about. You lot are like a broken record. Get a grip you Muppet!

    Manchester United.......The Champions of England
Manchester United ......The Champions of Europe
Manchester United.......The Champions of the World

That is an actual and modern day FACT.....................FOOL

  8. Mr. Flipper - you are the epitome of Man U supporters. Absolutely no sense of what's right and wrong. You are indeed the one who is blinkered. Your narrow mindedness is only overshadowed by your inability to accept the truth. Liverpool ARE the most SUCCESSFUL club in the history of English Football. They have MORE TROPHIES than any other club and that includes your beloved Man U. You DO NOT have your facts right nor did I expect you would. My comment was neither arrogant nor stupid but 100% factual - something you Man U lot have great difficulty embracing. Indeed the meer fact that you call me stupid without having any idea of who or what I am just demonstrates who exactly is the stupid and arrogant one! You should use your on line skills to better effect and search for the "most successful english soccer club" - you will be extremely disappointed. FOOL.

  9. Keep talkin' and dreaming Stevie. Rafa better think about how to stop MU from winning it again next season...

From Abang Kool, on Fri 8 May 10:04AM
  10. Susan M, you are as obviously blinkered as you are stupid.

Liverpool are not the most successful club in English football.

Manchester United have won the European Cup 3 times (possibly a fourth coming up)

United have won the league 17 times (and almost certainly an 18th time coming up)

United have won the FA Cup 13 times (LFC have only won it 7 times)

With that logic Manchester United are more successful that Liverpool

I have checked my facts, so your arrogant comments have made you look like a complete idiot.

Think before you write your pathetic rants

  13. People who say that we are a two men team are clowns. If you take Rooney & Ronaldo out of Man United's team what do you have? If you need proof look what happened against Everton. The real difference between the two teams is squad depth or lack of it in Liverpool's case. The owners have to spend some money if they are serious about winning the league. Everybody knows that Liverpool should have won the league by February but threw it away against the likes of Middlesborough.

From Sahladine L, on Fri 8 May 9:35AM
  14. comment no. 8. You obviously know nothing about soccer or Liverpool. You state "I'm sure their trophy cabinet has a lot of dust but no trophies". Liverpool ARE the MOST SUCCESSFUL club in Britain! 5 European cups and 18 leagues. So how you can think their trophy cabinet is empty is amazing. Get your facts right before you post rubbish in future. Ignorance is not always bliss! FOOL.

From Susan M, on Fri 8 May 9:25AM
  15. Keep talking Steven, that's really all you can do but it won't help you win the league. Manchester United have been through this before in the past with Arsenal and Chelsea & they have the experience to ensure they will be the winners of the title for the 18 time and there is absolutely nothing Mr Gerrard can do about it.

I'll send a can of Mr Sheen to Anfield as a consolation prize, as I'm sure their trophy cabinet has a lot of dust but no trophies. Another season of abject failure for the Scouse. Fantastic

From Flipper, on Fri 8 May 9:13AM
