Aberdeen have confirmed they are no longer interested in securing the services of transfer-listed Southend striker Richie Foran. The 27-year-old has been told by Southend boss Steve Tilson that he is free to find another club following a season curtailed by injury while on loan at Darlington in April.
The Irish striker, a £200,000 capture from Motherwell in January 2007, has failed to make an impact in League One finding the net just twice in 23 games for the Shrimpers.
"I can assure our fans that there were other factors behind the decision to drop our interest and nothing whatsoever to do with finance," Aberdeen's director of football Willie Miller told the club's official website.
"Furthermore the player was just one of a number of potential targets that we are assessing at present and we will continue to closely monitor the situation with the aim being to secure as strong a squad as we possibly can within our budget constraints.
