Britain's men and women endured a frustrating weekend in the European Volleyball League, losing all their games and winning just a single set.

In the men's event, Britain opened their Pool A assault on Friday against Spain in Valladolid.

They produced a decent performance against the 2007 European League champions, narrowly losing the first two sets 25-23 before going down 25-16 in the third.

Britain had a chance of revenge on Saturday and managed to pinch a set on their way to a 25-12, 25-21, 23-25, 25-20 defeat.

Britain's women opened their league campaign with two straight-sets defeats to France a fortnight ago, and hoped for a better return when they lined up against in Constanta.

But they lost the first of their weekend games in a one-sided encounter on Saturday, going down 25-21, 25-17, 25-11.

They pushed their hosts much harder in the second match on Sunday afternoon, but again lost in straight sets - 25-12, 25-23, 25-22 - despite chances to win the second and third sets.

British coach Audrey Cooper refused to get downhearted, despite the results.

"I am convinced that my team will win the next home matches we will play against Romania," Cooper said.

Romania coach Bogdan Paul did not agree.

"My girls are stronger than the Brits," he said. "We look forward to a bright future for our national team."
