Newcastle fans have urged Mike Ashley to appoint Alan Shearer as manager as he

Mon, 08 Jun 15:32:54 2009

The sportswear magnate today confirmed that is the knock-down price at which he is trying to sell the Magpies in a statement which left long-suffering supporters furious once again.

But Mark Jensen, editor of fanzine The Mag, was dismissive in his assessment of the move, and called on Ashley to install Shearer as manager and allow him to set about the process of rebuilding the squad before it is too late.

He said: "They would have been better off putting on something saying, `We are clueless', that's literally what it amounts to. It just reflects the urgent need for leadership at the club both on and off the pitch.

"It's clear that on the pitch, the leadership can be given by Alan Shearer in terms of sorting out the football side of things. With Alan Shearer in charge, it would not be just about what he can do as a manager, but he can be a person everybody can rally behind and start to rebuild the club.

"The sharp end of things is that there are only three weeks until the players are back for pre-season training, and the season starts on August 8."

  2. I am suprised that the NUFC hardcore fans actually let Ashley get through the whole season without kicking up much of a fuss. I have already been in protest and refuse to watch a club that has been mismanaged by some idiot that thinks he's running a market stall.

He failed to bring in new faces to do the job, he failed by not giving Kevin the resources and made a massive mistake by hiring Wise @#$%. Further he claims to have bout the debt - yet the same loss is back on the books just because we are no longer in the premiership. The rebuilding would cost even more now and so financially we are far worse off. Thats Mismanagment to the T

Its time for fans to make sure the club is in better hands, before we can think of getting a manager and a squad to do the job. If its wrong at the top it trickles all the way down to the pitch......

  3. 17 & 18 - Fair do's Cameron, let's keep chilled, stick to footie banter and, despite what Bill Shankley said, remember: at the end of the day its just a game, a game that we love and have tribal loyalties to our own clubs and tribal rivalries with neighbours but still just a game. It shouldn't end up as all out warfare - if the Gremlins and Casuals want a war let them join the army and head off the Iraq or Afghanistan - they wouldn't last the training never mins a battle.

  4. I am a Manc who has lived most of his life in the North East and i love my football. Over the years i have watched the hard suffering Mag fans through a succession of bad owners of your club Ashley beeing the latest. even Sir J H the guy who told you he was a miners son yet made millions from your club whilst he scrapped the reserve team to save money, then after D & F had been on there europe wide shagfest and dragged the good name of the club through the Sunday papers......YET you all turn up like sheep all 40K of you for home games has it not dawned on you yet these owner are taking the P**s
If that crowd dropped to 10K on home games and you stayed away till they started putting football on instead of taking you for granted and your money they would soon sit up and @#$% themselves and do something about it. THE ANSWER IS IN YOUR OWN HANDS MAG FANS

  7. Cameron, you sad sad bairn, you haven't sussed me at all have you? (Clue: are you sure you don't know me, you might even have had a pint with me.) I'm a wind-up merchant, nothing malicious, just love winding people up and appreciate the same in reply. You can't hack that and so resort to pathetic name calling (well, sticks and stones etc), I can rise abcve that (and indeed already have).
What winds you up so much? The truth? Well if you'd seen Tyne Tees 6 o'clock news last night you would have seen that your Supermac agrees with me: the club is in total disarray, in danger of doing a Leeds and heading for League One unless things are turned aroun d pronto and that doesn't look like happening soon - his words, I've just paraphrased them. The problem for you is that SAFC are on the rise and NUFC are sinking quicker than the Belgrano and you just can't hack it.
Yep, Cameron, wind them up and reel them in - its all goood clean fun.
P.S. I'm a 70's throwback, am I? Thanks, that make me at least 10 years younger. That's right Cameron, you're letting an old man wind you up!!

  11. Well Cameron, I wondered how long it would take ... not very long as it happens. You can't take banter (despite what you say or might think) so you very quickly resort to puerile personal name calling - typical Mag/ Skunk from my experience. You probably voted BNP last Thursday as well - shame on you!
Check out any of my postings you will find no personal attacks fro me, only generalisations. Clearly, while you can dish it you can't take it like so many of your ilk that I've met and worked over the years. You sad, sad child. You want to develop thicker skin, but that only comes with age. Am I 17 or 18? I wish! That was a long time ago. I would suggest that it is you who needs to grow up: grow up or shut up.
P.S. Who said that I feel superior? I sense some insecurities on your behalf there? Also what's this about you having more class? You're Championship now, we're Premiership, or had you forgot? Getting back to footie banter, remember, the future is bright, the future is Red & White. Ho! Hum! Tum-Tee-Tum! Such fun!

of course i can take it . . .banter that is, you are not posting banter . . . you are merely posting vitriolic bile!
I converse with plenty mackems on here, good people too, people i would gladly have a drink with, and it has always been a pleasure; with you however, it is not so. No, no, no; you are completely different, you are just old school 1970's nastiness you are - how old are you btw, 17, 18?
    Like i said:

  15. Cameron, you missed the 's' off 'mug' and should have finished the sentence with 'git' - I would take the comment as a compliment! Glad I'm winding you up though, I've got 16 years catching up to do - you lot dished it, learn to take it. If you can't , exit the page!! P.S. its not just me who thinks Shearer's boring, for starters ask Freddie Shepherd and Douglas Hall and don't forget if certain rumours are correct Freddie could be your next Chairman! I wonder where that will leave Big Al? Off to West Brom quicker than you can say "Taxi for Shearer"!!

Isn't Shearer off the West Brom as soon as Mowbray is installed as the new Celtic Boss? Either that or its down to London for a cushy once a week job, sitting on his backside and boring the pants off everyone.

wow. The toon really are idiots aren't they? You'd think the concept of fans running the club would have been an obvious mistake, given thats what you had in Ashley. The toon pines for Keagan, and he delivers lackluster football. They pine for changes, they get them, to disastrous results. Shearer is not ready for high level management. Wasn't that made obvious by the last 8 matches? If you want to stay in the Championship by all means appoint him. He'll get valuable experience there and will be all the better for HIS managerial career. But that won't get you back in the top flight. Maybe the toon should just shut up and support the team rather than nay say every off field decision made.
