Kaymer surges six shots clear in Munich

MUNICH (Reuters) - Germany's Martin Kaymer will take a six-stroke lead into Sunday's BMW International Open final round after producing another faultless display at the Eichenried course on Saturday.

Kaymer's five-under-par 67, to move to 18-under 198, left his nearest rival Charl Schwartzel of South Africa (66) needing to make up the second biggest catch-up of the year if he is to outdo Kaymer.

Frenchman Thomas Levet (67) and Britons Paul Casey (67), Ross Fisher (67) and Benn Barham (69) are a further stroke back.

Kaymer had surged five shots ahead of the field with a second round 63 playing alongside his hero Bernhard Langer, but the 23-year-old from Dusseldorf showed he did not need his mentor to extend his advantage.

A stunning putting display took Kaymer to the top of the leaderboard on Friday but even without a hot putter he looks ready to fulfil Langer's opinion that he is a Ryder Cup player in the making.

Victory will take Kaymer, who won the Abu Dhabi Championship for his maiden title earlier in the season, from 10th place on Europe's Cup table to sixth. But he is determined to keep his feet on the ground.

"I didn't make so many putts today but I still played well and I'm looking forward to tomorrow," Kaymer told reporters.

"I can't let myself think about what it will all mean, though, I must just go out, hope I have a big crowd supporting me, and enjoy it."

If he does win, Kaymer will have outdone Langer. This title is the only one 50-year-old Langer has not won of all the German tour events.

"I heard that he hadn't won it," Kaymer added, "but that is nothing compared to what he has done!"
