LONDON (Reuters) - Manchester City have completed the club record signing of Brazilian striker Jo from CSKA Moscow, the Premier League club said on Wednesday.
City said the 21-year-old had signed a four-year deal and though the fee was undisclosed they said it was a club record.
City's previous record was for Nicolas Anelka's transfer from Paris-Saint Germain in 2002 for around 13 million pounds and local media speculated that the fee for Jo would be around 18 million pounds.
Jo is the first player signed by Mark Hughes, who took over as manager from Sven-Goran Eriksson last month.
"He's a big talent and a young man with a big future," Hughes told www.mcfc.co.uk.
"A lot has been said about him and there was a big expectation on him coming out of Brazil. So with the success he's had I think it's a real coup that we've been able to bring him to the club.
"He's a big guy, in stature and in ability, so I think everybody will enjoy watching him play."
Jo, who joined CSKA from Corinthians in 2005, has made one appearance for Brazil in a friendly against Turkey last year but a reported fallout with coach Dunga appears to have restricted his involvement since.
