Ferguson confident of signing Berbatov

LONDON (Reuters) - Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson is confident Bulgarian striker Dimitar Berbatov will sign from Tottenham Hotspur before the start of next season.

"We have made Tottenham an offer on Berbatov and we have good expectations that this deal will go through," Ferguson was quoted in The Sun on Friday.

"Berbatov has been impressive for a long time and he would be a great addition to our attack."

Tottenham appear resigned to losing the 27-year-old who has been a huge success since joining from Bayer Leverkusen in 2006 but would want a fee of around 25 million pounds.

"I think time will work for us more than against us," Ferguson said. "We will not stress this situation. We are hoping to have a constructive conversation with Tottenham in the near future."

Tottenham manager Juande Ramos said on Thursday that some senior players would be allowed to leave the club as they build for the future.

  2. At man u he will have the less skilful players like Rooney and Fletcher to work for him and he will create goals for them in return bang. It's going to work. Maybe that will give Rooney the chance to score 20 goals for the first time in his career.

  3. Same old Fergie,He can tap up Berba over the past 8 months but Real Madrid can't even mention Ronaldo without him crying to UEFA,DOUBLE STANDARDS ??

  4. Alex, why pay so much for a Lazy player like Berbatov. I agree that He is Skillful in some ways BUT he is such a "lazy" striker. He will not succeed in Man Utd! With the bidding price amount, Man Utd can get a player far more interesting than this chap. Alex, WAKE UP!!!!
