Grimsby's Nick Hegarty claims "competition for places is good" despite Chris Llewellyn's arrival damaging his chances of a starting place.Hegarty established himself in the Mariners' first team during the second half of the season, making 37 appearances.
The 22-year-old midfielder admits the addition of Llewellyn will bring more pressure to perform, but he said: "I expected the gaffer to bring someone into midfield, among other positions, so it wasn't a surprise.
"Competition for places is good and we have that in a few areas now. It's down to me to show what I can do in the pre-season games.
"I'm sure everyone will get their chance and it should be interesting.
"I was happy with how things went for me last season - it was the best season of my career so far and was capped with a new contract. Now I want to get even better and even more games next season," he told the Grimsby Telegraph.
