Laporta calls for Barca stability

Tue 08 Jul, 11:00 PM

Joan Laporta has denied reports that he is set to resign as Barcelona president on Thursday - and has called for a period of stability.Laporta lost a vote of confidence on Sunday but was not forced from office as 60.6% of fans - short of the required two-thirds - voted against him.

He insisted after the vote that he would not resign and was forced to reiterate his position on Tuesday after reports in the Spanish media suggested he would hand in his notice at a board meeting on Thursday.

"I do not intend to resign," Laporta said in comments reported by Marca. "It is legitimate to continue."

Laporta was speaking from a meeting of the newly-formed European Club Association, of which he was named a vice-president on Tuesday.

He called for a period of stability at Barcelona and insisted that he had renewed purpose after surviving Sunday's vote.
