Craig Levein has praised new signing Warren Feeney for staying true to his word and turning down other clubs to move to Dundee United. The Taysiders have recruited the Northern Ireland international on a one-year loan deal from Championship side Cardiff.

Levein was worried he may have lost the 27-year-old when news of his availability became known to other clubs, but relieved when he completed his switch to Scotland.

"I am delighted to secure the services of Warren for next season," the United boss said.

"He is a player I know very well, having seen him in opposition when I was at Leicester City and then having him watched many times since.

"He will add pace, experience and, most importantly, a proven goalscoring capability to the team.

"It is no secret that I've been looking to bring in an experienced striker for next season and Warren certainly meets the criteria expected for this position.

"So much so that several other clubs approached him over the weekend when news leaked out that he might be available.

"It is a credit to him however that having agreed to come here, he made good on his word and I'm highly delighted to welcome him to Dundee United."

Feeney joined Cardiff from Luton in March 2007.

A former youth player at Leeds, he went on to be a prolific scorer at both Bournemouth and Stockport, leading to a £175,000 transfer to Luton in 2005.

The Belfast-born player has 24 full caps for Northern Ireland and has scored three international goals.
