Brentford's proposed new stadium is set to be one of the most distinctive grounds in the Football League according to feedback on the project. The 20,000-capacity stadium will have to be built to certain specifications in shape to fit into the site, at Lionel Road, which is triangular.
According to the Lionel Road Steering Group's initial feedback from project developers, the stadium will also incorporate two tiers, with seating close to the pitch to recreate the intimidating atmosphere of Griffin Park.
"The key thing is that the Lionel Road site is a triangular shape," said project manager Brian Burgess.
"As we have always known, it is a tight challenge to fit in all the facilities needed to give us a viable project. The good news about this is that the site constraints mean the shape and configuration of the stadium will be distinctive.
"There is not sufficient space to build a bland, symmetrical single-tier bowl. In order to achieve a capacity of 20,000 the current studies are based on a two-tiered stadium, which brings a lot more seats closer to the pitch and should create a 'cauldron' atmosphere."
