League Two - Gray bides time on transfers

Northampton manager Stuart Gray says the club do not have the financial clout to offer his transfer targets the contracts they are demanding as he continues his pursuit of a centre-half and a striker.

However, because of the current economic climate affecting football, Gray is hopeful that players will be more open in a move to Sixfields as the summer progresses.

Although Northampton have signed striker Steve Guinan and defenders Craig Hinton and Dean Beckwith, the Cobblers boss would like to bolster the squad even further as he seeks instant promotion to League 1 after being relegated last season.

"I don't think we've got enough centre-halves yet. In an ideal scenario you'd have two players for every position but that definitely won't be the case this season," Gray told the Northampton Chronicle & Echo.

"We definitely need another striker and it's all down to what we can afford. I've spoken to two or three players and we can't match the terms they want to come and play here.

"That's true not just at this football club but at most of them, we might have to look at bringing people in slightly later in the season."
