Premier League - Tevez: Fans will forgive City move

Eurosport - Sun, 05 Jul 09:29:00 2009

Former Manchester United striker Carlos Tevez is confident he will not be viewed as a traitor by the Old Trafford faithful if he completes a transfer to the club's cross-city rivals.

The Argentina international turned down a permanent deal at United last month following a two-year loan deal and has since been linked with a lucrative move to wealthy Manchester City.

Tevez told The People: "If I play for Manchester City I don't think the United fans will feel I am a traitor. They have to remember that at least as far as I know I have been thrown out of the club and I have to study the best offers available."

Tevez's decision to turn down the offer of a five-year deal at United has been defended by his adviser Kia Joorabchian, and the player himself insists manager Sir Alex Ferguson left him with little choice but to move on.

"It has come about because I could not stand my sporting situation at Manchester United any longer," he continued. "My first year was good in all senses. I played in the games and felt respected by the coach but in my second year some strange things happened that I still do not understand."

"I gave everything for Manchester United and people know that. For that reason I don't deserve the way things have ended up."

  1. Hey you rags you could not afford to buy Tevez, you had to sell girly boy to give you some cash you're up to you're kneck in debt,it's funny how little old MCFC have become the richest club in the world,so stop your wingin and accept that City are going to give the top four a run for there money next season and it looks like dear old sparky is going to @#$% on you.

  2. Look man, what's the problem!
Tevez was NEVER a man united player to begin with - they simply borrowed him, so therefore he owes them zilch!

  3. Tevez was treated very badly by Man U. They should have been talking about a new contract a year ago. This guy wants to play and wants to be respected. At City he will play week in week out and if he produces the goods he will be loved by the fans. Carlos Tevez could be a legand at Man City.

  6. tevez is a good player but manu is bigger than any single individual / player. he was assured that his contract problem would be sorted at the end of the season which was done, but still insisted on leaving! ok, i think he has a right to decide what he wants but it may not be fair to sound like united kicked him out unceremoniously! we owe him no grudges, rather wish him well with city. united remains the english champions and city will remain middle of pack team!!!

  9. I think everybody in todays game goes for the best deals, players, agents and clubs. Its all commerce now but United needs to avoid creating a prison where players cannot get out when they want to. Its a player's world and most INTERNATIONALS donot want to get entangled in local age old rivalries. If they cannot go they certainly would not come. I think its happening already.

  14. Tevez is good but not 25m good. Joorabchian thinks he is but then he is not a footballer. He's a businessman and all he cares about is his cut in the deal. Tevez should have realised that. But then again he's so money hungry that he did not see reasons. Giving such a lame excuse that he is not wanted is just never going to go down well with the ManUnited fans. We can see clearly through him when he first spoke to the media about his situation. He was never going to stay anyway after that. Contract or no contract. SAF had spoken to him about it yet he kept going to the media. If he thinks he is bigger than the club then he better think again. Or just go away. No doubt you're good Tevez but not currently 25m good.

" .. as far as I know I have been thrown out of the club ..." As far as I know SAFhad said on several occassions that he wanted to keep Tevez and his contract would be sorted out at the end of the season. To claim otherwise is "funny" at the least but arrogant at the worst. He was the one with the blabber mouth going to the media when he should have listened to SAF. And now he is making excuses so that he can be forgiven for crossing the floor. Thank hou for whatever little you gave, except for the energetic running around but not scoring enough as a stiker, and now just go away and start counting your money. Go ManUnited.

  17. Can all man utd fans please stop slagging off tevez. Throughout last season he saw how we tried to keep Ronnie with little being done to sort out his contract, and when he got on the pitch he gave it all one hundred per cent if he got 9 mins or 90 mins unlike Ronnie who often went missing daydreaming about madrd so please lay off him. It ain't his fault his owner (not agent and there is a difference) slapped a price tag on him that at the time did not reflect the market. Even when Tevez knew himself in the last few games he wasn't staying he still gave everything, he never disrespected the badge, always respected us fans and while he may not become a united legend, he has always been a devoted player and deserves our respect no matter where he goes to.

  18. Tevez was slapped around and insulted by manchester united at a time when he should have been more appreciated. When it was obvious Ronaldo was leaving it then became apparent a huge goal-scoring void would be left behind and there were few players capable of filing that void. To then be offered what you were asking for is a second slap in the face. In actuality Tevez probably deserved an even better deal but nonetheless, should have been treated with more respect. If he stayed it would only be a matter of time before he found himself in another bad situation. This is a case of "fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice shame on me". Tevez simply had to leave.
