Mo Farah has been given permission to miss this weekend's UK Athletics Championships to concentrate on his bid to break the British 5,000m record.

Farah (pictured) has made no secret of his desire to better David Moorcroft's 27-year-old time of 13.00.41 before next month's IAAF World Championship in Berlin.

The European indoor 3000m champion disappointed at last week's Bislett Games in Oslo but will have another attempt at the record at the Grand Prix in London later this month.

He is currently training at altitude in St Moritz with a group of Kenyan athletes and will return to the UK just two days before he is due to run at Crystal Palace.
