Dale quartet in line for debuts

Fri 08 Aug, 05:15 PM

Rochdale boss Keith Hill could hand debuts to four summer signings when his side kick off their League Two campaign away to Grimsby.Striker Jon Shaw arrived at Spotland from Halifax on a two-year deal after the clubs agreed an undisclosed fee.

Ciaran Toner joined from Grimsby on a free transfer while fellow midfielder Clark Keltie and defender Scott Wiseman both signed from Darlington, again on free transfers.

However, Hill will be without defender Marcus Holness as he recovers from a calf injury and midfielder Joe Thompson, who is nursing a knee ligament injury.

Last season's 3-2 play-off final defeat at the hands of neighbours Stockport ensured Dale have not won promotion since 1969.

They have resided in the bottom tier of English football since 1974 - the longest unbroken run in the basement division of the Football League.
